In October 2000, Chris and his whole fourth grade class went on an expedition to Jamestown, Virginia. Jamestown was the first permanent English colony in the new world. It's a common misconception that the Pilgrims were first at Plymouth Rock. In fact, it was Jamestown.
Today, Jamestown is administered by the National Park Service, along with Williamsburg and Yorktown, as part of the Colonial National Historical Park.
These three towns represent three distinct phases of the Colonial Period of American History. Chris' class had been studying Jamestown, and this trip gave them a unique opportunity to see where history was made, artifacts of the time, and even observe historical re-creations of the period.
